Gmail : The Spam Killer

To the right is a screenshot of one of my Gmail account.

gmail the spam killer

Amazing, 580 inbox email, and 145,000+ SPAM ! 😀

This amount of spam was used to be handled by my server. Now it happily forward them to Gmail, which then will filter the spam with its powerful spam filter.

I remember when my customers are complaining about slow Internet access. My first question is whether they hosted their email servers internally. When they answered yes, I did a quick check, then asked them to either host the mailserver externally, or use Google Apps email service.
Usually they will instantly enjoy a significant speed boost to their Internet access.

There are simply too much spam nowadays for our puny bandwidth to handle. I know of big companies here in Indonesia with only 256 Kbps internet access, shared with their 300 employees (yay). And they’re paying US$ 1400 / month (you read it right) for that…

Thankfully, Gmail comes to the rescue.
Thank you Google !

  1. rich man technology for poor people 😀
currently I also operate my corporate mail under free services of google… so I can pay my engineer a litle bit higher (due to the BBM issue)… hehehe…

  2. It’s just the spam tho. What I concerned more is the bandwidth wasted with the forwarded email (send this to all of your friends), forwarded scam and loooong email with lots of previously written comment not erased (usually mailing list).

Good email habit is rare in Indonesian so-called digital people.

  3. wah, kang harry kolektor spam ya? ha3.
    .
tapi sebenarnya ada yg aneh dg spam filtering di gmail… email saya yg di yahoo lbh byk terdaftar di website&milis2 tp spam yg masuk gak begitu banyak… ini gmail yg jarang dipakai malah spam yg diblok banyak banget… mungkinkah hny permainan google???

  4. I agree 100% with you. I love gmail because of great spam protection and also the big space inbox.

  5. Gmail has one of the best spam trapping algorithms. I also quite happily use Gmail. It rarely allows a spam to go to inbox.

  6. I completely agree with everything that was written above. Up until 2 years ago I was still paying money to my ISP for email maintenance, but then I discovered Gmail, and it practically changed my life… I just clean the spam folder once a week, and life is so much simpler this way.

  7. Gmails spam fighter is awesome. Though I wonder do gmail actuall takes care when I flag a message as spam.

  10. Gmail spam filter is very good in its functioning. Spoof emails like hacking someone’s account, paypal’s duplicate mails, etc are collected under spam filter in my account. So, i’m easily able to check that which email is legal and which is not.

  12. It’s true, Gmail works awesomely well on getting rid of junk mail. Thumbs up! I get way less now than with any other service I’ve ever used: Still, it’s “castles and cannons”… like any other security system, sooner or later they’ll think of some way round it

  13. Googlemail is pretty good at sorting the spam, and lets face it there is way to much spam coming into our inboxes these days. If I were to believe my spam I would be about the best socially connected person on the planet!
