### Perl Junior Programmer / MessageLabs / Gloucestershire

MessageLabs is looking for a junior programmer to join our Anti Spam Development team, programming mainly in Perl to maintain and create email filtering systems.

Salary is negotiable and the position will be full time, based in our offices between Gloucester and Cheltenham off M5 junction 11a, Gloucestershire. The position might also suit a sandwich placement degree student.

IMPORTANT: We would like you to show us an example of a project you have programmed in Perl. Ideally this will be provided as a URL to a working example, plus source code in a zip or gz archive.

Required (or equivalent):
– Maths and English GCSE grade C or above
– Two or more A-Levels
– Working knowledge of email servers
– Demonstrate good Perl programming skills
– Working knowledge of Regular Expressions
– Experience with Linux command-line usage
– Enthusiastic, professional, good-humoured

Desired (or equivalent):
– Currently studying or recently completed degree in a numerate discipline (eg. maths, computing, science)
– Good knowledge of SMTP (the more, the better)
– Working knowledge of C programming, HTML, MIME and RPMs
– An interest in language

### System Test Engineer / MessageLabs / Gloucestershire

MessageLabs is looking for a System Test Engineer, who will input, monitor and continuously develop the Development Test Team’s overall test strategy. They will also be responsible for executing comprehensive test plans & tracking for all projects in order to maximise product quality and acceptance.

Salary is negotiable and the position will be full time, based in our offices between Gloucester and Cheltenham off M5 junction 11a, Gloucestershire. A regular service bus connects our offices with both Gloucester and Cheltenham town centres. We have a casual office dress code.

Required (or equivalent):

– At least 3 years’ experience in a Test role, with at least 12 months of this being in a role with specific responsibility for the whole test lifecycle on a variety of projects.
– At least 2 years’ experience in a software development environment within the IT industry.
– A sound working knowledge of Windows and Unix operating systems, to include file and directory structures, user administration, and installation.
– Sound understanding of Perl and Shell Scripting
– A sound working knowledge of Networks, such as router and firewall configuration, connectivity, and TCP/IP.
– A sound working knowledge of relational database technologies, in particular SQL.
– A highly motivated, methodical individual who can devise, implement and execute test plans within an environment of competing priorities.
– Demonstrable ability to communicate at all levels.

Desired (or equivalent):

– A good understanding of website technology.
– An understanding of email technology and SMTP
– Knowledge of qmail
– Unix experience to be Linux preferably.
– Intermediate level of competency in all MS Office applications.
– ISEB certified

### Software Engineer – Security / MessageLabs / Gloucestershire

MessageLabs is looking for a Software Engineer, who has a good understanding of security concepts and can demonstrate an ability to deliver software with security in mind. You will be working within the Infrastructure Team, which develops the applications and tools that support and service the global architecture and infrastructure of MessageLabs operations.

Salary is negotiable and the position will be full time, based in our offices between Gloucester and Cheltenham off M5 junction 11a, Gloucestershire. Required (or equivalent):
– Educated to at least Degree level, in a computing related subject, with 2 years relevant commercial experience.
OR
At least 5 years experience in an IT role with programming experience.
– Minimum 2 years experience in Perl and C programming in a Unix/Linux environment.
– A sound understanding of the different elements of a security architecture.
– Good knowledge of multiple authentication protocols (LDAP, radius, kerberos, etc.), access control principles and identity management
– Experience with at least one directory product (e.g. Netscape Directory Server, OpenLDAP, Oracle OID, etc.)
– Proven experience of designing and building secure internet-facing software systems.
– Proven architecture, development and deployment skills.
– Enthusiastic, professional, good-humoured

Desired (or equivalent):
– Knowledge of other programming languages, such as C++ or Java.
– Working knowledge of programming on a Windows operating system.
– Knowledge of IIS, HTTP, HTML, XML, .NET and SOAP web technologies.
– Knowledge of SAML
– Working knowledge of internet protocols such as TCP/IP, SMTP and POP3.
– Knowledge of email systems, particularly MIME and RFC822.
– Knowledge of email products (sendmail, qmail, postfix, etc.)
– Good knowledge of strengths and weaknesses of security protocols and encryption algorithms
– Experience in writing technical security policies and security system administration procedures
– Good risk management skills
– Good risk code review skills
– Good technical auditing skills.
– Initiative and self-motivation.
