I looked around for a solution, and all I could find so far is this private project, which seems to be abandoned at the moment :Â http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=4649
Fedora has acknowledged this problem, and looking for a solution as well :Â http://zenit.senecac.on.ca/wiki/index.php/Raspberry_Pi_Fedora_Remix_FAQ#Why_is_the_Remix_slow.3F
But to my knowledge, so far there is none.
Do please enlighten me if I'm mistaken.
Once the RaspberryPi got the accelerated GUI, then I'd be able to introduce it to even wider audience.
Thanks in advance.

Hello guys, I’ve spent the bank hol looking into what’s involved in writing an accelerated X server for the Rpi. I of course have no hardware to find out actually how hard it may be, but it certainly seems doable. Anyway searching for similar posts on this forum leads to mixed information as to …

…and I found out that RaspberryPi Foundation has started developing Wayland to enable GUI acceleration on the Pi 🙂

I've tried Wayland on RPi yesterday and I'm dissapointed it's practically useless. Some of it (graphical glitches) will probably be resolved, but the biggest problem is that it apparently doesn't emulate X11, so no existing apps can run on it. Until this gets solved, the only thing Wayland can run is its terminal app (not a very good one). I've read somewhere that the RPi foundation is interested I'm getting Wayland in the default Raspbian, so maybe they'll sponsor some (much needed) development.
There's a X emulation layer for Wayland, called xwayland. This might be of interest to you :
