Pagi ini sedang browsing, tiba-tiba menemukan sebuah artikel dengan judul tersebut diatas. Isinya? Ternyata artikel buatan saya sendiri, ditulis 6 tahun yang lalu (omaigat!)

Ternyata dengan Linux, cuma perlu komputer Pentium I, memory 8 MB, dan hard disk 1 GB untuk membuat gateway server ya 🙂
OK, sekarang sih sudah jauh lebih gampang. Misalnya, dengan menggunakan IPcop, gateway server berbasis linux bisa up & running dalam waktu 15 menit saja. Maintenancenya juga super gampang, bisa pakai browser. Ini patut kita syukuri.
Di lain pihak, jika ada sebuah komputer Pentium 1 dengan memory hanya 8 MB yang tergeletak di sebelah Anda, jangan dibuang ! Baca panduan saya, dan jadikan dia yang kedua… maksud saya, internet gateway di tempat Anda.

Kalo butuh yang kecil, bisa coba monowall (m0n0.ch). Kalo PC lebih mampu, silahkan coba pakai turunannya: pfsense (pfsense.org). Lumayan pakai PC lawas, pasang gateway lengkap dengan squid, snort, dnsmasq, dan traffic shaper. Captive portal nya juga menarik tuh.

Mas saya dan coba instalasi nya. Tapi pas partitioning kok nggak jalan lagi ya saya pake Pentium II 300MHz memory 128 n hardisk IDE Quantum Fire ball XXXX. saya dah coba berulang kali. saya cek disk nya rusak mungkin. tapi masih bagus. So… solusinya gimana ya mas.Sebelumnya makasih.
My last few post were ’bout Linux firewall and Network address translation using iptables. For me iptables is a very dynamic tool to configure things with Linux box, like free Linux firewall, transparent proxy and Linux router to share internet connection. So this post is ’bout configuring Linux box as a secure and safe internet gateway using iptables and squid. You don’t need a hi-fi machine for the task, any low end machine could do good enough with two Network Interface Card installed on it. I’m always comfortable with fedora core so i used it again however any destro could do but then the steps here might need same changes, anyways i’ve used fedora core 6 i.e. latest kernel with iptables support. Let’s say the external ip of this box is 1.2.3.4 and internal ip is 192.168.0.1, now follow steps given below.

* Setup IP FORWARDing and Masquerading
